MISSY ON WAMU-FM BLUEGRASS COUNTRY WITH CAROL BEAUGARD | posted October 8, 2008
My good friend, Carol Beaugard interviewed me for WAMU's Bluegrass Country at their Nashville Studios during IBMA week. During the 30 minute interview, we played cuts from the new EP and discussed everything from how the band got its name to the future of Bluegrass music. I grew up listening to WAMU. Not only did this station bring us HOURS of bluegrass music but it's also where I became addicted to NPR's All Things Considered and Morning Edition. Yes, I'm one of those... Thanks to Carol, Lisa Kay Howard, and to Katy Daly for having me and making me feel so welcome. And, Thanks WAMU!!!

Our EP will be released May 20th and we couldn't be happier!!! We've put together 5 tunes that feature the new hip and a few special guests as well.WHAT'S ON IT? It starts off with Ethan Ballinger's explosive Eye of the Liger then moves demurely to Ed Snodderlys' rootsy and evocative Basket of Singing Birds. Then it rocks and grooves with the popular, band–penned Stop, Drop & Wiggle, (dance Kitty boy, dance!), next, a graceful turn to Snodderlys' sultry Magnolia, and then finishes with a sweet whisper with Mark Simos' Fingernail Moon. WHO'S ON IT? Along with the regular cast of the new hip, special guests on this debut recording include Matt Flinner on mandolin, John R Burr playing the Hammond organ, David Heyer on drums and Kenny Malone on percussion. FREE DOWNLOAD You can receive a FREE DOWNLOAD by ORDERING by Midnight May 20th!!! Missy says: "We have a special track just for you: Silver Lake, a funky instrumental of mine. This is a previously unreleased studio cut by the new hip. Some of you may remember this tune from my 'My Place in the Sun' cd, complete with James Brown horns, or you may have heard Jim Hurst and I work our chemistry on it live with just bass and guitar. Well, I've always wanted to record this tune with the band to see what would happen with it. The cool thing about Silver Lake is that it continues to live well in whatever context we put it- and it feels like it was made for this band. We had a blast cutting it, and want to share it with you. But, this is the only time we're offering it, so be the first on your block to get it and ORDER NOW!!! read more on our blog... OURSTAGE UPDATE posted May 17, 2008 We seem to be steadily moving up on our quest for a slot at the Newport Jazz Festival, we're at #9 !!!, a good way from our entry slot in the low 300s of just a few days ago, and we are psyched, but we still need your help. And while we've never been in love with contests, ourstage.com is actually a really cool site where the main focus is to expose more people to more music, and we think that's just a brilliant concept. It's free so check it out! sign up and vote here... OURSTAGE posted May 16, 2008

In two days we've jumped from our entry slot in the low 300s all the way up to 45 (yay!), but we've got a hill to climb. That's why we need you music lovers to sign up at

Missy at Merlefest 2008 posted May 14, 2008 Missy is just back from a big weekend at Merlefest where she performed with David Holt and Laura Boosinger and with the Girls for Merle featuring Rhonda Vincent, Laurie Lewis, Claire Lynch, Alison Brown, Sally Van Meter and Sierra Hull. While there Missy also held her popular Bass Petting Zoo, a workshop designed for the bass player lurking within us all.
Missy off to Italy! posted May 14, 2008 With just a little break in between, I went from Merlefest to northern Italy for a tour hosted by guitar virtuoso, Beppe Gambetta, along with Jim Hurst and Bruce Molsky. We performed as a quartet 4 nights to sold out theaters in Genova and Stradella, Italy for Beppe's 8th Annual Acoustic Night Series. It was fascinating to combine the diversity of Beppe, Jim, Bruce, and myself into one pot and create a show that felt wholly unified and yet still managed to let our individuality shine through. Well done, Beppe and Federica! And thank you for all you did! While there, I also had the privilege of playing on Beppe's upcoming CD scheduled for release in September 2008. More on that soon.
